Teaching Young People about Conservation in Indiana

Education is a great tool for increasing public awareness about environmental challenges. Through educational initiatives, people can gain an understanding of how their actions affect the environment, and they can learn how to become better stewards of the earth.

The Monsanto Fund supports environmental education in many communities. In 2005, we provided a grant of $10,900 to the Soil and Water Conservation District of Jasper County, Indiana, where Monsanto's Remington seed site is located. With this money, the county conservation team educates children and families on biodiversity, soil and water management, habitat restoration, and the functions of ecosystems. The team also provides materials for teachers.

Because of this initiative, more than 1,700 students, educators, and community members learned about conservation challenges. We hope that through this and other efforts, more people will be inspired to strive toward safeguarding a healthy environment for generations to come.
