To Apply

All Organizations from outside the United States interested in applying for a Monsanto Fund grant need to fill out a World Area Grant Application and forward it to the respective world area representative listed below. Applications sent directly to the Monsanto Fund office in St. Louis will not be considered.

Private nongovernmental organizations will need to complete additional documentation to show that they have nonprofit status equivalent to the 501(c)3 designation provided by the Internal Revenue Service of the United States. Private schools, hospitals or research organizations should each complete either the Private School, Private Hospital , or Medical Research Organization Questionnaire respectively. All other private nongovernmental organizations should complete the Public Charity Questionnaire.

Grant Application Deadlines

Grants are awarded twice a year by Monsanto Fund, in June and December. Deadlines for applications are:

First Cycle (June awards)

  • January 1 (Deadline for organization to send grant application to world area contact.)
  • March 1 (Deadline for World area contact to submit applications to Monsanto Fund St. Louis)
Second Cycle (December awards)
  • July 1 (Deadline for organization to send grant application to world area contact.)
  • September 1 (Deadline for World area contact to submit applications to Monsanto Fund St. Louis)
Application Requirements and Procedures
  1. International organizations must make initial contact through a Monsanto country manager or appropriate employee, who will ensure that they meet the tax-exempt status and other qualifications before initiating further discussions. All grant requests must be for $25,000 or more.


  2. Any organization that the world area is interested in will use the Monsanto Fund grant application, which is available on this site. At the same time that the application is being filled out, the equivalency document, if required, should also be completed.


  3. Proposals will be brought before country and world lead managers for approval. Country areas or regions have between January and March to identify organizations and projects of interest, ensure they meet all qualifications, develop and work on a proposal with the organization and submit it to the appropriate contact. Proposals that are endorsed will be sent, along with the completed tax equivalency document (if necessary) to the Monsanto Fund by March 1 for the first cycle, and by September 1 for the second cycle. Proposals received after the deadlines will be considered in the next cycle.

  4. During the March/April and September/October portions of each cycle, any followup questions, discussions or site visits will be conducted to allow for a comparable presentation of each proposal. Application documents will be evaluated by the Monsanto Fund board at its next meeting. Results will be announced in the June/July and December/January timeframe of the respecitve cycles.
